Bharti Airtel has teamed up with Google to strengthen spam protection for customers. Together, they are extending AI-powered filtering tools to text messages sent through Google’s Rich Communications Services (RCS) platform. The move aims to curb rising digital fraud and spam, especially messages containing web links.
Under the partnership, Airtel’s network intelligence will integrate with Google’s RCS platform and existing spam filters. As a result, users will access advanced messaging features, such as high-quality media sharing and interactive elements. Additionally, they will benefit from stronger protection against spam and fraud.
Airtel said its AI-enabled tools have blocked 7,100 crore spam calls and 290 crore spam SMSes over the past 1.5 years. This has resulted in a 68.7% reduction in financial losses on its network.
The company also urged other OTT and internet-based messaging platforms to collaborate in tackling spam. It noted that many non-telco apps lack telecom-grade safeguards and are increasingly exploited for financial fraud.
By combining Airtel’s intelligence with Google’s spam detection systems, the companies aim to create a more secure, carrier-backed messaging ecosystem. Moreover, Google said the solution will help users easily identify legitimate business messages, build trust, and improve customer engagement. At the same time, it will reduce the risks associated with spam and fraudulent content.
