The shares of India’s leading premium brandy manufacturer hit a 20 percent lower circuit on Monday after the Bombay High Court rejected the company’s plea in the Mansion House trademark dispute.
Price Action
With a market capitalization of Rs 5,681.22 crore, Tilaknagar Industries Ltd hit a 20 percent lower circuit in Monday’s trading session and was trading at Rs 293.40 per share compared to its previous closing price of Rs 366.70 per share.
What Happened
Tilaknagar Industries had filed a petition claiming that Herman Jansen Beverages Nederland B.V. and others used its trademarked names on alcoholic products to misrepresent their business as that of Tilaknagar Industries. However, the Bombay High Court has dismissed the petition.
Additionally, the court has permitted Allied Blenders & Distillers to launch products under the ‘Mansion House’ name in West Bengal. But it has placed a four-week stay on the order, giving Tilaknagar Industries time to file an appeal.
Company Overview
Tilaknagar Industries Ltd is majorly involved in the production and distribution of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). Their diverse product portfolio includes whisky, gin, rum, vodka and brandy. The company operates under various brand names such as Mansion House Brandy, Madira Rum, Blue Lagoon Gin, Monarch Legacy Edition Brandy and CNB Brandy among others.
Brandy is the second largest category in IMFL, out of which Southern and East India consumes around 70 percent of the entire production. As of Q3 FY25, the company’s flagship Mansion House Brandy has become the fourth fastest growing brandy globally. Notably, it is also the largest selling brandy in the country as well.
