India Signs Rs 858 Cr Defence Deals for Tunguska System

As India steps up its defence preparedness, fresh deals have been signed to boost both air and naval capabilities. The Defence Ministry signed contracts worth Rs 858 crore on 27th March for air defence systems and aircraft maintenance.

A Rs 445 crore deal with Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport covers the procurement of Tunguska Air Defence Missile Systems. This procurement is intended for the Army.

These systems will strengthen India’s multi-layered air defence against threats like aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles.

Separately, a Rs 413 crore contract has been awarded to Boeing India for the maintenance of P-8I aircraft for the Navy. Moreover, the deal ensures in-country MRO support. It aligns with Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

Overall, the contracts aim to boost the operational readiness of both the Army and the Navy. In addition, this will strengthen India’s defence ecosystem.
