For over 3 decades now, the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC), which is also one of the largest sovereign wealth funds of the world, with Asset Under Management (AUM) of around 1 Trillion US dollars, has been continuously investing in India and in the past 5 years, they have doubled their investment in India.
The fund has around $28 billion deployed in Indian markets as of Q3FY25. And most of their investments are in Bluechip stocks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI Life, Bajaj Finance, etc.
What the CEO of GIC said
CEO of GIC Chow Kiat said that the importance for India will only grow from here, the momentum here is very strong. He has also instructed the investment team of GIC that the capital is always there for them if they find any good investment ideas.
They believe that India’s Demographic and several reforms done by the government in several sectors are going to be a big positive for the Country. They also believe that companies establishing their manufacturing factories in India will be very beneficial as India becomes a global supply chain hub.

Investment Ideas from GIC
GIC has an investment approach of 10 to 15 years of average holding period. Which for them comes with the unique advantage of sailing through several cycles and investing in companies across different capital structures. They invest in several sectors, by which they lean on several ongoing themes. GIC is seeing opportunities spawning in sectors like Healthcare, Financial services, real estate, Consumer-focused technology, and Infrastructure.
GIC On the Real estate sector
GIC has been continuously looking for investments in office blocks and Ultra Luxury hotels in the US. In India too, they have formed partnership with DLF and K Raheja Group mainly for commercial realty, which has been a key focus for the fund.
