Waaree Energies shares rose as much as 1.14% on Thursday, touching a day’s high of Rs 2,848.00 on the NSE, after a new battery plant opened.
Waaree Energy Storage Solutions, a subsidiary of Waaree Energies, has begun production at a plant that makes Battery Energy Storage System containers.
Think of these as large-scale battery units that store electricity, often used to hold solar or wind power for later use when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing.
That’s a big deal for a country like India that’s adding renewable capacity fast but still needs a way to keep the power flowing when the weather doesn’t cooperate. What’s notable is that the plant’s capacity turned out bigger than expected.
The company had originally planned for 3.5 GWh of capacity, but thanks to improvements in production efficiency and better battery cell technology, it’s now starting off at 5.15 GWh instead.
The facility uses fairly advanced automation too, including robots that move materials around and automated assembly lines, which should help keep quality consistent as output scales up.
This is just the opening chapter of a much bigger plan. Waaree ESS is targeting a total of 20 GWh in energy storage manufacturing capacity over time.
Later this financial year, the company also aims to get a battery pack facility and a lithium cell manufacturing unit up and running, both part of the same broader push to build storage equipment locally instead of depending on imports.
Waaree’s Director, Sunil Rathi, said battery storage systems are becoming central to India’s clean energy shift, helping keep the power grid stable and reliable as more renewable energy gets added to the mix.
Waaree Energies shares closed the day at Rs 2,830.30 on the NSE, up 0.62% compared to the previous close.
