Amazon Expands Northeast Air Cargo with New Route

Amazon has expanded its dedicated air cargo network to Northeast India. The company launched a new Kolkata–Guwahati route to speed up deliveries and improve market access for sellers in the region.

The new air link will connect the Northeast more closely with Amazon’s national logistics network. It will support deliveries across the seven Northeastern states — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura through a mix of air and surface transport.

Amazon said the additional air cargo capacity could speed deliveries up to 5 times. As a result, customers can receive products such as daily essentials, smartphones, electronics, fashion, and beauty items more quickly.

The first Amazon Air flight to Guwahati was flagged off from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu. He highlighted the rapid growth of aviation infrastructure in the Northeast. He also noted that the number of operational airports in the region has risen from 9 in 2014 to 16 today.

Amazon currently operates around 10 flights daily in its air cargo network. However, this number can increase sharply during major sales events, such as the Great Indian Festival. During these times, the number can reach up to 200 flights a day.

The company said the improved logistics connectivity will help businesses in the Northeast reach customers across India more efficiently. At the same time, customers gain faster access to Amazon’s wide range of products.
