Auto Stocks: Which 2-Wheeler Company Dominated Sales in May 2026?

Synopsis: Four of India’s leading two-wheeler makers reported their May 2026 sales data. One crossed a historic high, one posted the sharpest growth rate, one held firm on the export front, and one kept its premium momentum alive.

India’s two-wheeler market delivered a strong performance in May 2026, with all four major listed players reporting year-on-year growth. Consumer demand remained broad-based,  spanning commuter motorcycles, scooters, electric vehicles, and premium bikes, pointing to a healthy start to FY27 across segments and geographies.

May 2026 Sales Scorecard: Who Sold the Most?

Hero MotoCorp

Hero MotoCorp retained its position as the undisputed volume leader in May 2026, reporting total dispatches of 570,068 units against 507,701 units in the same month last year, translating to a growth of approximately 12% year-on-year. Wholesale domestic dispatches stood at 536,784 units (up roughly 10% from 488,997 units), led by strong demand in the Deluxe 125cc, premium motorcycle, and scooter segments. On the ground, retail momentum was equally robust, with 496,957 domestic VAHAN registrations recorded during the month.

The company reinforced its grip on the 125cc space by launching the Super Splendor XTEC 2.0. In the EV arena, Hero’s emerging mobility brand, VIDA, clocked 19,052 VAHAN registrations, a massive 166% surge year-on-year, while its DIRT.E K3 model commenced retail operations in select markets.

Global markets gave an extra push, with exports growing 78% to 33,284 units. For the cumulative April–May FY27 period, total dispatches reached 1,136,154 units compared to 813,107 units a year ago, registering a strong 39.7% jump.

TVS Motor

TVS Motor Company posted the sharpest growth rate among the big four, reporting total sales of 566,585 units in May 2026, marking its highest-ever monthly sales figure. This represents a 31% surge from the 431,275 units sold in May 2025. Total two-wheeler sales rose 31% to 543,111 units, with domestic two-wheelers growing 24% to 384,565 units. Segment-wise, motorcycles grew 30% to 273,802 units, while scooters climbed 32% to 220,740 units.

The company’s electric vehicle division also hit a record high, with sales surging 56% to 43,632 units. Meanwhile, the International Business segment turned in a standout performance; sales jumped 49% to 175,991 units, achieving the highest-ever international sales in the company’s history. Three-wheelers added to the financial momentum, registering a 55% jump to 23,474 units.

Bajaj Auto

Bajaj Auto reported solid total sales (2-wheelers and commercial vehicles combined) of 4,61,257 units in May 2026, up 20% year-on-year from 3,84,621 units. While domestic two-wheeler sales climbed a steady 9% to 2,09,528 units (compared to 1,91,412 units in May 2025), international markets were the real growth driver.

Two-wheeler exports surged 30% to 1,83,676 units, while commercial vehicle exports witnessed an even sharper 65% spike to 29,550 units. Total exports stood at 2,13,226 units, up 34% year-on-year, underscoring Bajaj’s unmatched position as India’s premier automated exporter. In the April–May FY27 period, cumulative sales reached 9,75,049 units against 7,50,431 units a year ago, reflecting a 30% growth.

Eicher Motors

Royal Enfield sold 103,231 motorcycles globally in May 2026, up 15% from 89,429 units during the same period last year. Because international business faced macroeconomic headwinds dipping 33% to 9,116 units (down from 13,609 units), the domestic market acted as the sole growth engine, keeping the brand in the green.

Domestic sales rallied by 24%, rising to 94,115 units compared to 75,820 units last May. For the April–May FY27 period, total sales reached 216,395 units, a 23% increase over the 175,988 units managed last year.

The brand hit major strategic milestones during the month, expanding its 650cc portfolio with the launch of the Bullet 650 across India, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Oceania. Additionally, Royal Enfield announced plans to acquire a land parcel in Tada, Andhra Pradesh, for a new greenfield manufacturing facility, backed by a phased investment of approximately ₹2,500 crore to scale long-term production capacity.

The Takeaway

May 2026 highlighted the strength of India’s two-wheeler market across segments. Hero MotoCorp continued to lead in overall volumes, TVS Motor delivered the strongest growth and a record performance, Bajaj Auto reinforced its export leadership, while Royal Enfield sustained its premium positioning through strong domestic demand and continued expansion initiatives.
