The shares of this company, which is in the defence and aerospace electronics sector in India and is among the few vertically integrated defence companies and aerospace electronics solutions providers, had momentum today after the company bagged an order from the India Meteorological Department.

With a market cap of Rs 17,230 crore, the shares of Data Patterns (India) Ltd jumped about 2% in today’s trading session and reached a high of Rs 3,263.90. When compared to its previous day’s closing price of Rs 3,215.10. The shares are trading at a PE of 69.6, whereas their industry’s PE is at 53.8, and they have given a return of more than 300% in the last 5 years.

About the order

Data Patterns (India) Limited has entered into a contract worth Rs 288 crore with the India Meteorological Department to supply 32 Doppler weather radars. The company has issued a clarification stating that the order value and number of radar units were incorrect in its previous announcement due to an inadvertent mistake, and hence, the order value and number of radar units have been updated to correctly reflect the order details. 

The supply of the Doppler weather radars to the India Meteorological Department aims to enhance the capabilities of the meteorological department in monitoring and forecasting the climate in India. Weather radar technology is critical in identifying and monitoring rain, storms, and other harsh weather conditions. 

The order has been placed by a domestic government entity, and hence, there are no related-party transactions. The order has been placed in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract and reflects the capabilities of the company in executing high-end electronics and radar-based solutions.

Financials

The revenue from operations for the company stood at Rs 173 crore in Q3 FY26 compared to the Q3 FY25 revenue of Rs 117 crore, up by about 48 per cent YoY. Similarly, the net profit stood at Rs 58 crore in Q3 FY26, up compared to the Rs 45 crore profit in Q3 FY25.

In the latest quarter, Data Patterns (India) Limited had an order book of Rs 743.4 crore. The order intake of Data Patterns is highly diversified, with production contributing 36%, development contributing 31%, and services contributing 33% to the total order book. This shows that while production orders are still a significant portion of their total order book, the rising share of development and services orders reflects the rising prospects in engineering-based defence electronics and services.

Data Patterns (India) Limited operates in collaboration with various renowned entities in the defence, aerospace, and research sectors. Some of their clients include renowned Indian defence PSUs and research institutions like Bharat Electronics Limited, BrahMos Aerospace, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Indian Space Research Organisation, and Electronics Corporation of India Limited. All of these organisations require the company’s services in defence- and aerospace-related electronic systems.
