GIFT Nifty Surges 1.25% on Global Cues; Nifty 50 Eyes Strong Open

GIFT Nifty surged 1.25% on 14 April, touching 24,175.50 at 10:27 am IST, pointing to a strong opening for the Nifty 50 when Indian markets reopen on Wednesday after the Ambedkar Jayanti holiday.

The index was up by 298 points, recovering ground lost after a bruising Monday session. The Sensex shed over 700 points and the Nifty slipped more than 200 points, dragged down by a spike in crude oil prices and concerns over the breakdown of US-Iran negotiations.

Global cues have since turned supportive. Brent crude fell roughly 2.7% to around $96.66 a barrel, easing inflation fears for oil-importing economies like India. Reports that Washington and Tehran remain open to dialogue, alongside comments from US President Donald Trump about a possible deal, helped calm fears of prolonged supply disruptions.

Asian markets rallied sharply. Japan’s Nikkei and South Korea’s Kospi each gained more than 2%, while a broader Asia-Pacific index added around 1%. US markets closed higher overnight, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq each climbing over 1% on earnings season optimism.

Institutional flows were mixed on Monday. Foreign investors offloaded equities worth Rs 1,983 crore, while domestic institutional investors absorbed the selling with net purchases of Rs 2,432 crore.
