As tensions escalate in West Asia, the Maharashtra government has rolled out an emergency helpline to assist residents stranded in the region.
On 3rd March, officials said hundreds of people from Maharashtra are currently stuck in parts of the Middle East. This is due to airspace closures triggered by the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict. Authorities clarified that all of them are safe.
The Chief Minister’s Office said CM Devendra Fadnavis is personally monitoring the situation and remains in constant touch with multiple agencies. He is also coordinating with the Central government, which is extending assistance. Additionally, State Minister Girish Mahajan has been assigned to oversee coordination efforts.
In collaboration with the Indian People’s Forum in Dubai, the state government has issued a WhatsApp helpline number, +971 50 365 4357, for stranded citizens seeking assistance.
The crisis follows continued US strikes on Iran, with President Donald Trump stating that heavy and targeted bombing would continue as long as necessary. Several West Asian countries have since closed their airspace. This has led to widespread flight disruptions.
Officials said data on stranded citizens is being compiled from across Maharashtra. Among those currently stuck in Dubai is Congress MP from Jalna, Kalyan Kale. He had travelled there just before the joint US-Israel strike on Iran, according to his brother.
