An ATS investigation into the incident of stones thrown at the Vande Bharat train has uncovered details about the motivations behind the act, as revealed by the accused.
The stone-pelting incident on the Vande Bharat Express in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, has revealed some shocking details. According to the investigation by the UP ATS, the attackers had a dual motive: they intended to break the train's windows and slow down the train. Their ultimate plan was to snatch mobile phones from passengers seated by the windows. Hussain, also known as Shahid, one of the accused, was arrested in the Mughal Sarai area of Chandauli and provided this information during his interrogation.
On October 2, 2024, as the Vande Bharat Express was traveling from Varanasi to Delhi, stones were thrown near the Panki station in Kanpur. The glass of a window in coach C7 shattered, causing panic among several passengers, who instinctively ducked for cover. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Panki and the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Prayagraj were alerted about the incident, leading to the registration of a case against unidentified individuals for damaging railway property.
Major Revelations in the Investigation
Following the incident, the ATS unit in Varanasi launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of Hussain alias Shahid. During questioning, he disclosed that the primary objective of throwing stones was to reduce the train's speed, facilitating the theft of mobile phones from passengers sitting by the windows. This unexpected conspiracy has taken security agencies by surprise.
