SWELECT Energy Systems Completes 10MW Solar Project For Airport Authority in Tamil Nadu

Synopsis:- Completing its full commitment under an Airport Authority of India solar supply arrangement, SWELECT Energy Systems Limited commissioned a 5 MW plant in Tiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu on May 2, 2026, bringing the total AAI project capacity to 10 MW under a third-party open access model.

A Tamil Nadu-based solar energy company disclosed the commissioning of a 5 MW solar power plant on May 2, 2026, completing a 10 MW project for a central government aviation body. The plant, located at Perumpoondi and Nedumpirai Village in Cheyyar Taluk, Tiruvannamalai District, is connected to the Sirungattur 110/33-11 KV TANTRANSCO substation at 110 KV level, with power supplied to AAI’s Chennai Airport under a third-party power sale model through intra-state open access in Tamil Nadu.

With a market capitalisation of Rs. 1,014.05 crore, the shares of SWELECT Energy Systems Limited were last available at Rs. 668.95 per share, up 1.45 percent from its previous close of Rs.659.4. It is trading at a P/E of 18.01.

The 5 MW plant commissioned today is the second tranche of a 10 MW project undertaken for the Airport Authority of India, with the first 5 MW having been commissioned previously. Power will flow to AAI’s Chennai Airport facility via Tamil Nadu’s intra-state open access framework, a regulatory mechanism under which the generator and consumer transact directly, with distribution licensees facilitating wheeling at prescribed charges.

AAI, as a central government entity, represents a creditworthy and stable offtake counterparty; a point of relevance given that open access arrangements typically carry merchant-like revenue risk when the buyer is private. The 110 KV interconnection level also suggests the plant feeds into the high-voltage transmission network, reducing distribution-level losses.

At 10 MW in aggregate, this AAI project is a relatively small addition to the company’s generation portfolio, though the reference customer and the completion milestone carry signalling value for future institutional and government-linked solar procurement.
