Synopsis: Bharti Airtel has partnered with Google to integrate AI-powered RCS messaging for stronger spam protection. With 71 billion spam calls already blocked, the move enhances digital safety through sender verification and real-time filtering. The initiative strengthens customer trust while supporting long-term engagement and secure enterprise communication.
Telecom companies are making good use of artificial intelligence technology to improve customer protection and minimise digital fraud cases. As technology advances and new forms of communication emerge from traditional SMS technology, security has become a major aspect to consider. Strategic partnerships between telecom companies and technology giants worldwide are defining the future of digital communication security by integrating AI technology into the process.
With a market cap of Rs 10.74 lakh crore, the shares of Bharti Airtel Ltd are trading at Rs 1,884; it is trading at a PE of 35 compared to its industry PE of 40. The shares have given a return of about 260% over the last 5 years.
AI-Powered Messaging Security Boost
This partnership between Bharti Airtel and Google can be considered a major step towards enhancing the spam protection features with the help of AI-powered Rich Communication Services (RCS) messages. This partnership helps bridge the existing gap that exists for telecom-grade security for OTT and non-telecom messaging platforms.
Airtel has been quite successful in the fight against spam and fraud. In the last 1.5 years, the telecom operator has been able to block 71 billion spam calls and 2.9 billion spam SMSes, resulting in a 68.7% reduction in financial losses for the operator. With the integration of Google’s AI-powered spam filtering feature for RCS messages, the overall spam and fraud scenario can be further improved, ensuring that the overall experience for users with richer and more interactive messages also has the benefits of enhanced security features.
The overall AI-powered RCS message feature has been designed with the benefits of having several security checks, such as the validation of the sender, DND checks, spam filtering, filtering of malicious links, and throttling of the sender. This feature ensures that fraudulent messages are filtered before they are actually sent to the end users, creating a much more trustworthy experience for users with digital communication.
From a strategic point of view, the partnership helps Airtel establish itself as a telecom operator that puts customers first and focuses on digital safety. By leveraging the power of AI-driven verification and real-time threat detection for carrier-backed messaging, Airtel not only becomes a more secure telecom operator for customers, but it also becomes a more secure platform for enterprise messaging. This can, in turn, boost customer retention, brand, and digital engagement over time.
