Netflix Acquires Ben Affleck’s AI Film Startup InterPositive

Netflix is stepping deeper into AI-powered filmmaking with a new acquisition.

The streaming giant has bought InterPositive, an artificial intelligence-based film technology startup founded by Ben Affleck. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but Affleck will join Netflix as a senior advisor.

Founded in 2022, InterPositive develops AI tools designed to assist movie production. Its technology helps maintain visual consistency and cinematic logic during filming, especially when production faces challenges such as missing shots or lighting errors.

The deal comes at a time when the entertainment industry is divided over the role of artificial intelligence in filmmaking. Some see AI as a tool to improve production efficiency, while others worry it could threaten creative jobs and intellectual property.

Affleck said the company built safeguards into the technology to ensure it supports creative work rather than replacing it. According to him, the tools are designed to assist filmmakers while keeping creative decisions in the hands of artists.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria also emphasised that the goal is to expand creative possibilities. She said new technology should help creators do more without replacing the work of writers, directors, actors, and production teams.
