Punjab has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs for both domestic and commercial consumers.
State Power Minister Sanjeev Arora said the tariff for domestic users has been cut by 70 paise per unit. In comparison, commercial consumers will see a reduction ranging from 65 paise to 79 paise per unit. The revised rates will come into effect from 1st April.
The minister said the state already provides 300 units of free electricity per household per month. Consumers who pay for power after crossing the 300-unit limit will now benefit from the lower tariff. Fixed charges for residential users have also been reduced by Rs 5 to Rs 10 per KW per month.
The government has also offered relief to the commercial sector, including traders and shopkeepers, through tariff reduction.
For electric vehicles, the state has set a fixed charging rate of Rs 5 per unit, which the minister said is the lowest among all consumer categories.
In the industrial segment, fixed charges for connections up to 100 KW have been reduced, and there will be no tariff hike for industries in the financial year 2026–27.
Additionally, advocates will now be billed under the residential tariff rather than the commercial tariff.
