Suzlon Energy Rises 2% on Fresh 105 MW Order Win

Shares of Suzlon Energy climbed to a day’s high of Rs 58.15 on 30 June, after it won a 105 MW wind energy order from Sunsure Energy.

Suzlon Energy has bagged an order to supply 21 next generation S175 wind turbines, each rated at 5.0 MW, for a project to be set up in Bijapur district, Karnataka.

The order will include erection, commissioning and maintenance of the turbines as well.

What makes this win notable is that it marks the commercial debut of Suzlon’s S175 turbine, billed as India’s tallest and most powerful wind turbine. The company secured this order within just two weeks of launching the model.

The S175 runs on a 175 metre rotor with a 160 metre hybrid lattice tower, a design meant to capture stronger winds and open up sites that were earlier considered unviable for wind projects.

This isn’t the first time Suzlon and Sunsure have worked together. This is their third order in the past 14 months, taking their combined partnership to 400.8 MW.

Ajay Kapur, CEO of Suzlon Group, said the pace of these orders shows ‘the deep trust our customers place in Suzlon’s technology’.

Sunsure Energy’s co-founder Manish Mehta added that the S175 fits well with the company’s plan to build a 10 GW renewable energy platform by 2030.

As of 12:40 pm on 30 June, shares of the Pune based wind energy major were trading at Rs 57.94 on the NSE, up 1.28% for the day.

The stock has gained close to 1.67% over the past month and remains well within its 52 week range of Rs 38.19 to Rs 68.30.
