Tata Power Shares Rally 5% on Inking PPA with Gujarat Government 

Shares of Tata Power Ltd rallied 5% on 20 March after the company announced the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Gujarat Government for the Mundra Power Station.

In an interview, Tata Power MD & CEO Praveer Sinha stated that Mundra has received approval for a supplementary PPA, with Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana to follow suit.

The Mundra shutdown resulted in a Rs 1,000 crore loss for Tata Power during the first nine months of FY 2026.

Sinha said that the PPA rate is identical to Section 11, and that commercial concerns have been settled upon, with specifics to be disclosed soon.

The arrangement is also on conditions comparable to those reached by the Gujarat government with the Adani group, and it will serve as a blueprint for signing PPAs with other states, according to Tata Power’s MD and CEO.

The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) has dismissed an appeal filed by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) against the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (MERC) prior judgment on parallel licensing.

At 2:21 pm, the shares of Tata Power were trading 1.88% higher at Rs 406 on NSE.
