Synopsis: Gateway Distriparks jumped sharply after the company acquired 25 acres near Indore for a new Inland Container Depot and will invest Rs 150 crore for the project, adding rail connections and accommodating 1.2 lakh TEUs.
The shares of this integrated inter-modal logistics service provider, engaged in transportation between its facilities and maritime ports, as well as first & last mile connectivity to provide end-to-end solutions to the EXIM industry, are in focus after the company made an announcement that might significantly improve its business fundamentals. In this article, we will dive more into the details of it.
With a market capitalisation of Rs 2,973 crore, the shares of Gateway Distriparks Ltd reached a day-high of Rs 61 per share, up nearly 9 percent from its day’s low price of Rs 56.20 per share. In the last one year, the stock has corrected by over 19 percent, as compared to NIFTY 50’s positive return of 7 percent.
About the announcement
Gateway Distriparks Limited, through a stock exchange filing, announced that it has acquired around 25 acres of land near Indore, close to the Pithampur industrial area, where they plan to set up a new Inland Container Depot (ICD).
An Inland Container Depot (ICD), often called a “dry port,” is a specialised, customs-approved facility located in the interior of a country, away from seaports. It acts as an inland extension of a seaport, facilitating the handling, storage, and customs clearance of import/export containerised cargo via rail or road.
Indian Railways has already given initial approval, and the design features two rail sidings capable of handling up to 1.2 lakh Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU) annually. As part of this investment, the company will invest approximately Rs 150 crore in the entire project.
Once operational, the ICD will manage rail-linked container transportation for both export and domestic cargo. It will also offer bonded warehousing and last-mile road delivery services.
For Gateway Distriparks, this marks their first major move into Central India, expanding into Madhya Pradesh’s active manufacturing region. The facility is intended to serve all major hubs in the area, including Indore, Pithampur, Dewas, Ujjain, Dhar, and nearby towns.
The upcoming Indore–Dahod railway line is also expected to help by reducing the rail distance to JNPT port, allowing more cargo to move by train instead of by road. This will benefit manufacturers and exporters by cutting costs. Overall, the project significantly strengthens the company’s rail logistics network in the region.
